As warmer weather approaches, it is natural to feel anxious about one’s appearance. The comfort and concealment of winter clothes are no longer an option. Unfortunately, this anxiety may be felt year-round by those who are self-conscious about their “double chin.” Many clients are experiencing newfound confidence after trying Kybella®. It is the first FDA-approved injectable medicine for adults to offer a non-surgery solution to submental fullness, or “double chin” as it is commonly called.

What Causes Submental Fullness?

The excitement around Kybella® has clients wanting to know more about their stubborn chin fat and how to get rid of it. Eating a healthy diet has many benefits, including radiant skin and a more youthful appearance. It is common for those with submental fullness to wonder why they cannot get rid of their double chin with diet and exercise alone. Other factors like genetics and aging play a role in the fullness of the chin. The good news is that Kybella® works best on moderate to severe chin fat.

How Is Kybella® Different from Liposuction?

Often, those who have suffered years with their “double chin” have thought that liposuction was their only option. Frequently, they want to know what is the difference between alternative treatments like Kybella® and traditional chin liposuction. The main difference is that liposuction is a surgical procedure and Kybella® is an injectable medication. Most patients see results after 2-4 treatments given once every 1 to 3 months. Some people need up to six treatments.

How Long Will the Results Last?

Chin-fat is common in both men and women, causing equally damaging effects on appearance and self-esteem. Most patients are happy to learn that once Kybella® is injected under the chin, it destroys fat cells permanently, eliminating the need for continuous treatment. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. There are very few fat cells that remain, though. Studies show that these remaining cells can enlarge and be significant if an individual gains about 25-30% of their treatment weight. So if you weigh 170 lbs during treatment, you would have to weigh 212 lbs for the “double chin” to potentially return.

Is Kybella® Right For Me?
