Are you interested in a facial injectable such as Botox or Juvederm? We know how frustrating it can be to have noticeable wrinkles on your face and neck. Fortunately, an injectable procedure can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore the youthfulness of your face. These procedures are simple, quick, and will get you back to your normal routine with little to no downtime. In fact, you may even be able to receive the injection on the same day of your initial consultation. The best part about facial injections like Botox and Juvederm is that the results take effect in a matter of days afterward.

Wondering about which option is best for you? The Baton Rouge-based Dermatology Clinic provides cosmetic dermatologists who can help you determine what will be the most effective treatment for your skin.

What Is Botox?

Botox is a minimally invasive injection that restores smoothness to the skin and prevents new and deeper wrinkles (elasticity and buoyancy to the skin). It is an injectable substance that blocks muscular nerve signals, weakening the muscle’s ability to contract, thus diminishing wrinkles. Botox can be safely used to treat a variety of conditions including frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead furrows, and skin bands on the neck. The procedure is brief, only taking a few minutes, and does not require the use of anesthesia. A similar injectable substance available at The Dermatology Clinic that reduces or removes wrinkles is Dysport.

What Is Juvederm?

The scientific name for Juvederm is hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that helps cushion joints like the shoulders and the knees, as well as support the skin. When injected at the appropriate spot with the proper amount, this dermal filler offers patients the opportunity to experience the benefits of a surgical facelift without having to go under the knife. The improvements are immediate, and the shape can be maintained for anywhere between six months to two years. Other similar options that can help restore your youthful appearance are Restylane, Belotero, Radiesse, and Sculptra.

Another benefit of Juvederm is that if you are unhappy with the results for any reason, the filler can be removed quickly. This is why it is one of the most popular fillers on the market today.

Botox and Juvederm vs. Vanquish

While Botox and Juvederm are facial injection treatments that tighten the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, Vanquish is an innovative procedure that uses the latest in radio frequency technology to target fat and remove it. The heat produced by the Vanquish system also serves to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It can also target a large area of the body, such as the abdomen.

Vanquish treatments require the patient to schedule four appointments over four weeks.

Preparing for Your Injectable Procedure

Though the injection procedures of Botox or Juvederm last typically between 15 to 30 minutes, it is important to start preparation for the treatment around two weeks in advance.

The most common way to prepare is to reduce or cease the intake of alcohol, vitamin-E, ibuprofen, and aspirin. This step is necessary to avoid any temporary swelling or bruising at the site of injection. It is also important that the patient be calm and not engage in any strenuous physical activity on the day of the appointment because a high heart rate increases the risk of bruising after the procedure. Also, note that it is recommended that the patient wait for a sunburn to heal before receiving the treatment.

If it is determined that you are fit to have the treatment at the initial consultation, the procedure can be completed the same day.

The recovery routine for an injectable treatment is minimal. Most patients are able to return to their daily routines immediately following the completion of the treatment. It is advised that the patient continue to apply an ice pack to the injection site as a means of reducing any swelling that may occur.
