Botox injectable treatments are one of our most popular cosmetic procedures. The quick and simple process typically causes little to no discomfort, and most patients see results in as little as two to three days after their visit. The Dermatology Clinic offers Botox as a stand-alone procedure or in combination with other skin rejuvenation services, depending on the needs and goals of each patient.
Botox injections are non-surgical skin treatments that can effectively minimize the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles while inhibiting the formation of new ones. Unlike dermal fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, Botox targets certain facial muscles and temporarily blocks the nerve signals that cause these muscles to contract. The repetitive movements of these underlying muscles are responsible for many of the most common signs of aging, including frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead furrows. Botox can reduce this movement to improve the appearance of the patient’s skin.
A healthy individual with no history of neuromuscular disease is an ideal candidate for Botox. The procedure is safe for most patients, although we do not recommend the treatment for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with a sunburn should let their skin heal before receiving the injections. Patients who take ibuprofen, aspirin, or Vitamin E should reduce their intake for two weeks before the appointment, as well as avoid alcohol during this period. In addition, strenuous activities that elevate the heart rate should be avoided the day of the procedure. These substances and activities may increase the risks of swelling and bruising.
After the initial consultation, we will schedule a time to administer the Botox injections. In some cases, we can perform the procedure the very same day. During the treatment, we use a thin needle to inject small amounts of Botox into the targeted facial areas. It usually takes less than 30 minutes, and most patients experience very little discomfort. When the appointment is over, many patients are able to return to their regular routine.
After receiving Botox injections, patients should continue to limit their intake of alcohol, ibuprofen, and aspirin during the first day or two following the treatment, in addition to applying ice to the injection site to reduce swelling. Most patients start to see results in three to four days, but for some patients, improvements are noticeable in as little as 24 hours. It typically takes about two weeks to see the full benefits of Botox injections, and we recommend repeating the treatment every three to four months to maintain the appearance.
