ProFractional laser treatment is an effective way to help diminish fine lines and wrinkles, fade scars, and improve collagen production for a healthier, more youthful appearance. At The Dermatology Clinic, we perform this outpatient procedure in the comfort of our office, and many of our patients notice results after just one treatment.

What Is Sciton ProFractional Laser Skin Treatment?

ProFractional is one of several laser skin rejuvenation treatments created by Sciton, an industry leader in aesthetic laser equipment. During a Sciton ProFractional treatment, one of our experienced aestheticians or physicians uses a handheld laser to safely and accurately penetrate select portions of the skin tissue within the treatment area. These microspherical openings allow for the removal of damage collagen and trigger a healing response in the body, which helps stimulate collagen production for tighter, more resilient skin. The healthy tissue surrounding the treated area also helps it heal faster, which typically results in three to four days of downtime.

Is Sciton ProFractional Laser Treatment Right for Me?

We recommend Sciton ProFractional treatments for a variety of conditions, including fine lines, wrinkles, and decreased elasticity associated with the depletion of collagen, a common effect of aging. It’s also effective in helping to fade the appearance of scars and birthmarks. Another great aspect of Sciton ProFractional treatments is they can be tailored to the problem being addressed (fine lines be deep wrinkles) and the amount of downtime one has.

The best candidates are in good overall health and have positive, realistic expectations about the results of their treatments. We do not recommend ProFractional to individuals who suffer from medication-induced light sensitivity or who have taken Accutane within the last three to six months. If you have active cold sores or wounds within the treatment area, it’s best to postpone the procedure until the skin heals completely. For those who get cold sores, antiviral medication is taken for three days.

What Can I Expect Before and After My Treatment?

Before you receive any treatment at The Dermatology Clinic, a doctor or aesthetician will examine your skin, discuss your concerns, and learn more about your desired outcome. If your personalized skincare plan includes ProFractional laser therapy, we will schedule your first session after your consultation.

Sciton ProFractional laser treatments last approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Once complete, we’ll refresh your skin with cool compresses and apply a soothing finishing ointment. Your skin may feel moderately sunburned, and mild redness with swelling is common. If the treatment is aggressive, bleeding and moderate redness and swelling occur. In most cases, the treated skin heals completely within a few days. Until then, it’s best to avoid direct sunlight. Many patients prefer to take a day or two away from work for a light treatment. After the initial recovery, and most are ready to apply makeup and sunscreen just three or four days after treatment. For those aggressive treatments, it takes four days of healing before makeup can be applied. Tighter, firmer skin is often immediately noticeable, and the results may continue to improve over the following six months as your collagen stores reorganize.
