Three Methods to Cope with Hair Loss at a Young Age

By April 21, 2016May 11th, 2023Uncategorized

Being young doesn’t mean a full head of hair is guaranteed. In fact, many younger people suffer from hair loss. While it can be unnerving for some, there are steps that can help diminish the negative impact.

Change Hairstyles

One of the best ways to cope is to change how the hair is styled. Instead of going for a big poufy mane, opt for something flatter. This draws attention away from the fact there are fewer strands. This technique works well for both men and women.

Men may also opt to shave their heads. It keeps the bald spots from being noticeable, while still being stylish. For those who don’t want a completely shaved head to help deal with their hair loss, a buzz cut is a good option.

Women may not want to shave their heads completely. However, shorter pixie cuts are very popular. This sleek style minimizes the appearance of patches.

Buy a Wig

For some, the best way to deal with their growing baldness is to buy a wig. A quality wig can be pricey. However, those who are suffering from an illness may be able to get assistance. There are many charities and organizations that help to secure authentic-looking wigs for patients.

Wigs can be a fun and exciting change. Consumers can choose a style or color they would never have been able to have with their natural hair. The important thing to remember is to always try it on before purchasing to make sure it looks good and fits properly.

Medical Treatments

If hair loss is a major concern, talk to your dermatologist about the problem. He or she may be able to assist in reversing some of the damage. Over-the-counter and prescription medications can increase hair growth or at least stop further loss. Surgery can also correct many of the problems.

Patients who choose the surgical option are happy to know it is completed in one day as an outpatient procedure. On the day of the surgery, donor tissue is removed from the back and sides of the patient’s head. Afterward, the surgical team prepares the follicular for placement. Preparation includes dividing the strips into groups comprised of one to four follicles. Patients spend this time relaxing, watching television, or reading a book. Patients are free to walk around the facility and talk to staff or use the restroom as well.

After the team preps the follicle units, the physician administers a second round of local anesthetic and begins the hair loss restoration procedure. He or she makes tiny incisions on the scalp, one for each unit. To ensure a natural-looking hairline, the doctor must make these cuts precise. The location, angle, and depth affect the overall look after completing the procedure.

Upon completion, the surgical team inspects the graft and gives the patient instructions on how to care for the newly grafted follicles. The doctor, or one of his or her staff, also gives the patient any medication and dosage instructions to combat sleep issues or postoperative discomfort.
