One of the top New Year’s resolutions is a slimmer waistline, but for some, diet and exercise are not enough. CoolSculpting and Vanquish are both FDA-approved treatments that help target and remove stubborn fat cells with little downtime. Learn more about these non-surgical body contouring treatments.
How Are Fat Cells Removed?
While both treatments destroy and eliminate fat cells, they use two different methods. CoolSculpting freezes fat cells, and the cells are later removed from the body through the lymphatic system. Vanquish uses heat to kill and eliminate deep layers of fat cells. Both treatments safely target the treatment spot without harming nearby areas.
What Areas Can Be Targeted?
CoolSculpting treats small areas at a time, and sessions last about an hour. Approved treatment spots include under the chin and jawline, thighs, abdomen, back, underneath the buttocks, and arms. For larger sections like the abdomen, multiple sessions are needed to tackle the entire area.
Vanquish can treat larger areas of the body at once, requiring fewer treatment sessions than CoolSculpting. Sessions last about 45 minutes, and patients usually schedule four to six total sessions for best results.
When Are Results Noticeable?
Because fat cells must undergo a process of dying and being eliminated from the body, CoolSculpting results are usually seen between two to six months after the procedure. Patients may also experience mild side effects such as temporary redness, swelling, and bruising. With Vanquish treatments, some results may be noticeable immediately after one session, but most results are seen one to two months later. Most Vanquish patients report no noticeable side effects.
CoolSculpting and Vanquish treatments shouldn’t be used as a total weight-loss strategy. Both were developed to reduce problem areas of the body that can’t be completely addressed with a healthy diet and exercise. Please recognize that although fat cells are eliminated, the remaining fat cells can still expand if healthy habits aren’t maintained.
