How to Prepare for CoolSculpting

By February 25, 2020May 11th, 2023CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting helps break down stubborn fat cells that don’t respond to traditional exercise and dieting. This fat-freezing procedure is safe and was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2012 to help eliminate fat under the chin, jawline, abdomen area, buttocks, upper thigh, and back. Once you’ve had your consultation and have scheduled your appointment, follow our top tips to help prepare for CoolSculpting.

Stop Taking Blood-Thinning Medications and Supplements

Blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as aspirin and fish oil, make the body susceptible to bruising, which is one of the few potential side effects of CoolSculpting. These medications may increase discomfort after the procedure. During your consultation, inform your doctor about any medications or supplements that you’re taking. They will either clear you to keep using them or recommend alternative medications.

Adhere to a Healthy Routine

To help achieve the desired results, adopt a healthy diet and exercise routine if you haven’t already. A healthy, nourished body may respond better to treatment and help results appear more quickly.

Take Care of the Targeted Area

CoolSculpting can only take place if the skin is in good condition. This fat-freezing technology involves massaging and suctioning, which cannot take place on bruised or cut skin.

Avoid Tanning and Smoking

Prolonged sun exposure can make the skin in the targeted treatment area sensitive and prone to bruising. Avoid tanning and apply sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to the intended treatment area whenever exposing it to direct sunlight.

Smoking can also delay healing. If you smoke or vape, please stop one to two weeks before your treatment.

On the Day of Treatment

Wear loose, comfortable clothing for your CoolSculpting treatment. Depending on the targeted area(s), treatment may last from 35 minutes to an hour. Feel free to bring a book, laptop, or another device to pass the time.
