Juvederm Injections: Your Questions Answered

By October 26, 2017May 11th, 2023Dermatology, Skin Care

Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler that helps create a more youthful profile by adding volume to specific areas of the face. Many women pursue this non-surgical treatment to counteract the natural effects of aging. Here are the most frequently asked questions by those considering a Juvederm treatment.

How Can Juvederm Be Used?

This smooth gel contains hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that creates healthy skin by delivering nutrients, adding volume, and retaining moisture. Injections of Juvederm accelerate collagen production and increase the skin’s hyaluronic acid content. They can be used to plump, fill, and firm the cheeks, lips, and sections around the nose and mouth. Different formulations of Juvederm are used for different problem areas, allowing a truly customizable result.

What Can I Expect During the Procedure?

Juvederm treatments are conducted by a cosmetic dermatologist in an office setting. The procedure typically takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on the extent of desired treatment. Before the injections, you’ll receive a topical numbing cream to reduce discomfort. It is applied for 30 to 60 minutes.

What Results Will I See?

With Juvederm, a smoother, firmer complexion will be evident almost immediately and will continue to improve in the days following the treatment. Results typically last between one and two years as the substance naturally dissolves over time.

Are There Side Effects?

Some people experience minor swelling and bruising at the injection site, which usually goes away in a day or two. Sometimes the bruising and swelling can last longer. Avoiding items that thin your blood, such as, alcohol, ibuprofen, garlic, and fish oil for 1 week before your injection may reduce the bruising. You should not get injectable dermal fillers if you have a history of severe allergic reactions or are allergic to lidocaine. It’s also not recommended for those who tend to form large scars known as keloids.
